NEWCASTLE Conservatorium will present a piano recital by Andrew Chubb on Friday June 2, 8pm at Newcastle Conservatorium Concert Hall.

The recital will feature music by Philip Glass, including excerpts from the acclaimed musical score for the film The Hours.

The score received Golden Globe, Grammy and Academy Award nominations, along with winning the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for film music.

Philip Glass has gathered a cult following through his evolving music style. Initially classified somewhat controversially as a minimalist, Glass has created his own distinctive style.

He is also credited with revitalising opera back in the mid-1970s, and his compositions now span the worlds of grand opera, dance and film.

Andrew Chubb's recital draws from this eclectic collection spanning 25 years and will also include the Opening from Glassworks, Mad Rush, Act III Conclusion from Satyagraha, the second movement of Trilogy Sonata, Modern Love Waltz and Wichita Vortex Sutra.

Andrew's interpretation promises an intimate musical experience in accord with the Glass tradition and follows on from his very popular Glass recital in 2003.
